Barbara Nolan, an artist from Lowell MA, thrives on the sensation of color and believes that living in New England and experiencing the spectacular seasons that Mother Nature provides as an artistic advantage. The landscape is of special interest to her. She says "All seasons of the year have unique qualities. The colors, the textures, the forms and patterns in nature are always in transition, I often turn to the landscape for inspiration."

Barbara describes her work mostly as abstract and often times, whimsical. She finds that working in the abstract allows for a greater creative approach to a subject but confronts the artist with the complexity of getting across to the viewer.

She has been working at and studying art for many years and has found that she is continuously learning through the experience of creating. She believes there is a progression that happens in her work, always one painting leading to the next, as if in a constant flux, a constant work in progress.

Along with the love of the landscape and the challenge of abstract painting Barbara finds that experiencing the texture of a Van Gogh, absorbing the bold patterns and colors of a Matisse and enjoying the whimsy of Pop Art are influences that drive her.

Studying art, experiencing nature and her love of color and texture all come together in a bold selection of paintings.  She says, "Experimenting with color, form, and textures are my life's preoccupation. Color is my favorite mode of expression and I am always working toward new ways to invent compositional harmony, whether in an abstract piece, a landscape or an experimental study."
